GyroSynth for iPhone 4

Posted by Mikers On October - 31 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

GyroSynth is a gesture driven music synthesizer for the iPhone 4, which takes full adventage of the gyroscope. You can play and modulate the sound by moving your hand through the air – just like the legendary Theremin instrument.

GyroSynth makes use of the gyroscope to measure true roll, pitch, and yaw and translates them to sound parameters like pitch, volume, modulation or filter cutoff. Thanks to phenomenal accuracy (2000 degrees), you can play melodies perfectly in tune.

FEATURES

- 4 types of oscillator: vocal (formant synthesizer), sine wave and square (PWM modulation), R2D2 – experimental FM modulation
- Several control modes
- Delay effect
- Included musical scales allow you to effortlessly play in several styles
- Built-in recorder and player with overdub function

The wonderfully weird wiresq

Posted by Mikers On October - 31 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Wiresq is a turing complete sequencer for generating musical phrases. It uses wireworld, a cellular automata that allows for the construction of digital logic circuits to generate audio triggers. You can construct logic gates, memory circuits, calculators and more. You may be familiar with similar applications that use the game of life, but in this CA is much easier to construct stable repeating patterns and logic gates.

It also includes a simple synthesizer with an agressive filter. Enough to sketch out your ideas, but not too much to get bogged down in.

Theremax…Think iPad Theremin

Posted by Mikers On October - 31 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Theremax is a simple synthesizer for the iPad, inspired by the Theremin and a number of other electronic and non-electronic instruments.

This project started with on a number of ideas: first of all, what if you could see the sounds around you, and play along. Theremax has a frequency graph in the background; you can whistle a tune, and by touching the peaks on the screen, play the same tune. The second founding idea was using the touch surface on the iPad as a musical instrument; hardly an original idea, but we’ve worked to use the iPad in the ways it works best, rather than trying to emulate existing instruments. Finally, we wanted to create a variable precision musical instrument; if you want to see the whole range of the instrument, you can zoom all the way out. If you want to play a melody precisely, you can zoom way in.

Time to stomp the box

Posted by Mikers On October - 21 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

StompBox turns your iPad into a fully fledged digital effects unit, complete with chromatic guitar tuner, metronome and loop recording tools. StompBox allows you to build a rack of effects in any order and then save your settings as patches that can be recalled at the press of a button.

With StompBox you get the best of both worlds, a rack of professional sounding stereo effects (with far more control than simple foot pedals) and a foot controller to access a tuner and all your patches.

Simply listen through a pair of headphones, or attach to an external amplifier or hifi to truly experience the program in all its glory! StompBox uses stereo routing between effects, which results in a very professional sounding experience.

In order to use StompBox you need a way of connecting your guitar. The simplest way to accomplish this is to use an iRig adaptor (sold separately), but if you have a camera kit you may be able to use an inexpensive USB sound card.

StompBox comprises 17 unique effect modules such as delay, reverb, flanger, phaser, chorus, pitch shifter, tremelo etc. We have also included a noise gate, compressor, parametric and graphic equalizers so that you can create many unique and interesting tones. There are 7 types of distortion effect available (from overdrive, to fuzz to full out classic distortion) as well as custom amplifier EQ’s, so plenty of scope for all types of music!
