Drum pads for iPad

Posted by Mikers On July - 18 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Adding the growing collection of drumpads for iPad (and iPhone/Touch) comes this pretty tidy app from developer, OutOfTheBit, who has already produced a handful of percussion flavoured iPhone apps, including one of my faves, Vintage Drum. Shiny Drum is much the same style app, offering a range of classic drum machine sounds, and some normal acoustic drum kits all mapped to 12 decent size virtual ‘Octopad’ style pads. Nice!

Shiny Drum is a music application for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad designed by OutOfTheBit and Leo Di Angilla, the creators of Vintage Drum (app featured by Apple in many countries), iBongos, iCongas, iTimbales, iPandeiro.

If you love percussions then Shiny Drum is the app for you!
With Shiny Drum you can play the sounds featured on our popular music apps on your iPad, for free!!

Show your friends what a good drummer and percussionist you are!
Download Shiny Drum now and start playing in a few seconds!

Making beats with PolyRhythms

Posted by Mikers On July - 12 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Another step-time beat maker enters the fray! Promises quality samples, and creative freedom to build the grooves the way you want them sound…

Explore countless rhythmic possibilities by looping drum patterns of different lengths. Infinitely entertaining, never the same twice, and you don’t have to be a drummer, musician, or engineer to have fun with it! Just press play and start clicking!

USING POLYRHYTHMS:
The two groups of buttons control the fast and slow rhythms. Start by activating a few the fast rhythms on the left side work your way to the slow rhythms on the right to get a sense of the master loop.

THE MASTER LOOP:
The leftmost beat in every row all play simultaneously at the beginning of the master loop, and will never all coincide again until the long pattern repeats each 2-6 minutes depending on the tempo. The progress indicator (bottom) lets you know where you are in the master loop.

LEFT (FAST) SIDE:
Each successive row of buttons on the left represents a looping rhythm of a different length, and each button represents a pulse in that loop. The top left button plays every single pulse and the bottom loops a pattern with 15 pulses. These buttons can be touched on and off during playback to adjust the rhythms as they cycle through the master loop.

RIGHT (SLOW) SIDE:
Each row of buttons on the right represents a different equal subdivision of the master loop, and each individual button is a unique location in the loop. These play only once each per cycle of the master loop and mark your place in the long cycle.

FEATURES:
- High quality drum samples create a rich audio experience.
- Audio controls (top right) include Play/Pause, Restart, and Tempo.
- Tempo can also be varied smoothly in real time.
- Progress indicator (bottom) lets you know where you are in the master loop.
- Sessions (top left) can be saved and loaded back in during playback.

This is an ongoing project and we welcome your feedback. Please email your questions and comments to polyrhythms@xapnet.com.

Check the developer’s site for more details – http://www.xapnet.com/polyrhythms/index.php

soundTable looks tantalising

Posted by Mikers On July - 12 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

I’d like to give this a try, as it ‘sounds’ like a lot of fun. Rather than explain it myself, the developer’s description is far more entertaining!

The SOUND TABLE is the new amazing App to make music by senses:

- LOOK FOR the best loops and the most suitable effects
- GET & MOVE the objects by your fingers
- LISTEN the sounds through headphones or speakers

Easy to use with a clean and simple interface, the SOUND TABLE allows you to make music as never before.

Pump up the volume, there is a party in your hands!

Features:

. Move objects, adjust frequency, tempo and amplitude…
. Sync loops with a single tap…
. Link cascade filters…
. Record your sessions and layouts…
. Enjoy!! :)

We will move forward based on your feedback!
Just use: soundtable@gluak.com to set the course!

New loops available daily!!

Or just send your own to: soundtable@gluak.com, reporting:
. Tempo
. Genre
. Author – your name
…and we will do the rest!! :)

ADD: maybe there is something you should know :)
. You can sync loops start/pause by dragging one over another and placing a tap on it.
. If you sync to a playing loop, your playback will change status when the other one crosses the zero – or when you pause it.
. Tap on Tempo control – while in pause – will reset it to 1.0!
. Tap on mixer will pause everything, so, if you will face with a big freezing… maybe you hit the mixer :)

We are really happy to share with you new features, improvements and bugs.

For now, thank you!

Not a great deal extra to go on, but here’s the developer’s site – http://sx.gluak.com/st/info

Midi Live for Karaoke fans

Posted by Mikers On July - 12 - 2010 1 COMMENT

From the maker of the iPhone app, MIDI Player 2.0 comes this upsized iPad version. Apart from more screen real estate to play with, you get access to more of the editing parameters and compatability with Midi Mobilizer from Line 6. Neat, but it’s not cheap!!

This application is designed for live performance using the Midi Mobilizer from Line 6. It provides realtime modification of midi file parameters including:

* Song Tempo
* Key Change
* Instrument Assignment
* Song Cue
* Mixing Parameters

It is possible to alter these parameters while the song is playing or save for future playback. Playlists are also supported. Songs can be freely downloaded from the internet or loaded from your laptop.

Note: This application does not make sound on its own, it requires the Midi Mobilizer from Line 6.

Feeling the bass

Posted by Mikers On July - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Nice to see an app released that focuses on synth bass, and bass alone. iPad support and some useful import/export options are welcome additions, plus the lean towards live performance!

BassLine is a virtual analog bass synthesizer with built-in step sequencer and on-board effects. It’s unique filter (the heart of any subtractive synth), a never self-oscillating, cascaded low-pass, allows you to produce the well known high-resonance filter sweeps, typical for vintage synths like the legendary TB-303.

Feature List:
• Monophonic synthesis engine
• Individual pattern lengths & downbeat-aligned switches
• Overdrive with tube-like distortion characteristic
• Tape delay with tempo-synchronous delay times
• Pattern randomizer
• Four oscillator waveforms (sawtooth, square, pulse, and saw/triangle)
• Low frequency oscillator (LFO) for cutoff modulation
• Tap tempo & MIDI Clock sync support
• Accelerometer-driven cutoff frequency control
• Audio export via AudioCopy by Sonoma Wire Works, via General Pasteboard (Beatmaker compatible), or via E-Mail

Designed for live performance, and with the capability to interchange audio data with other apps or via mail, BassLine is for anybody who’s in creating electronic music, producer or deejay

Tiction AV

Posted by Mikers On July - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Tiction is an open landscape for creating rich, evolving music.

Thousands of people have been using the Mac and PC versions of Tiction to create generative melodies and mesmerizing visuals. Now, Tiction AV takes the natural step onto the iPad.

How it works:
- Create nodes by tapping on the screen.
- Connect nodes together. Create long, complex sequences by chaining together many nodes.
- When triggered, a node plays a note with pitch determined by its position on the screen.
- Nodes can also send OpenSoundControl (OSC) messages when triggered.
- Nodes perform physical actions (jiggle, attract others, repel others) when triggered.

Features:
- High-quality sound sets
- Smooth, life-like physics
- Nodes can be assigned to one of four color-coded groups
- Nodes can be locked in place or allowed to roam free
- OpenSoundControl (OSC) support

Planned for next release:
- Ability to save and recall your compositions
- Import your own samples
- Change keys/modes
