iRig makes recording easy

Posted by Mikers On April - 22 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

IK Multimedia is at it again, creating yet another handy iOS app aimed at musicians and audio recording enthusiasts in general. This is perhaps their most straightforward app to date, yet could have the widest appeal, thanks to the range of different applications you could use it for. Sure, iOS devices have a built in voice recording app, but the features are limited. So if you find yourself needing cut, copy, and editing features, along with audio processing and uploading options, this is well worth considering.

iRig Recorder is a powerful and flexible audio recording app for your iOS device that is convenient and easy to use. You can have a professional recording tool there at your fingertips anytime, anywhere along with intuitive and practical editing functions and various export options to fit your audio needs wherever your mobile life takes you.

iRig Recorder is the perfect companion to iRig Mic. Take iRig Mic and iRig Recorder anywhere to capture podcasts, interviews, concerts … any sound out in the field or right there at home. Then use iRig Recorder’s intuitive editing tools to cut, crop or loop your audio and its powerful effects processors to optimize tone for speech or music, clean up background noise, brighten your voice for clarity and presence, smooth your voice in harsh or overly bright recordings or change the speed of your tracks without affecting their pitch.

Effect processors are so easy to use that anyone – even without specific music or audio knowledge – can quickly produce quality audio material in seconds with iRig Recorder.

iRig Recorder organizes your recordings by date and time and also tags them with a geo location for easy and reliable file management of your recordings. Export your files via E-mail, Wi-Fi, FTP, SoundCloud or iTunes File Sharing in a variety of sizes and formats (including 16-bit 44.1 kHz uncompressed). Record your world with iRig Recorder!

Visible Sound HD

Posted by Mikers On April - 1 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Visible Sound provides a 3-dimensional, colorful, visual representation of the sounds heard by the iPad’s microphone or an attached audio headset. Unlike other audio visualizers, which all too often consist of pre-programmed, mostly meaningless graphics that only loosely correspond to the music being played, Visible Sound creates all graphics completely on-the-fly from the sound itself.

This means you can see every drum beat, every vocal solo, every musical feature represented on the screen. The Visible Sound visualization is so detailed, you could theoretically use it to reproduce the original sound being displayed.

Visible Sound is also great for playing and experimenting with – see the frequency content of your voice, your dog’s bark, your doorbell, or a coin rattling as it falls to the ground. You can continue to play music from the iPod app, Pandora, etc. while Visible Sound is running, or use it with any other source of audio.

Several color schemes may be selected for a different appearance, and to highlight different parts of the spectrum. The color schemes have been specifically chosen for visual appeal, clarity and visibility on the iPad screen.

Visible Sound uses the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to isolate the individual frequency components (essentially, the individual musical notes) in sound, and displays the intensity of each frequency using both color and 3-dimensional position.

Visible Sound works on both the iPad 1 and iPad 2. Despite the graphical complexity of the visualization, performance on the iPad 1 is just fine, and performance on the iPad 2 is even better.

Coming soon: versions for the iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and Mac OS X.

AKLite finds frequencies for free

Posted by Mikers On March - 10 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

AKLite is a real time spectrum analyzer for the iPhone and iPad. It is a lite version of the Spectrum part of Audio Kit iPhone App, also by Sinusoid Pty Ltd.

FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) is used to calculate the frequencies in the Spectrum Analyser and these are displayed in real time. The frequency is displayed in either logarithmic or linear scale and this is selectable.

The area under the line trace can be optionally filled or left blank.

The FFT length used in AKLite is 2048, giving good resolution of frequencies. Interpolation gives resolution to within 1Hz.

A Bartlett FFT window type is used for calculations and there are 3 FFT windows used.

The strongest frequency is displayed above the peak

To process line-level audio with the application you a device similar to the iRig from IK Multimedia but any set of cables that enables you input audio into your iPad would be fine. For the best signal, you will need to match the impedance of your line-in signal to the iPad’s input.
