Here’s another of the growing number of remote app for those lucky enough to own one of the compatible mixers.

SL Remote™ for iPad® provides remote control of nearly all of the mixing functions of PreSonus StudioLive-series mixers. SL Remote connects wirelessly to Virtual StudioLive™ (VSL) for Mac® and Windows®, freeing the sound person to move around the venue while making adjustments to the mix and empowering musicians to take control of their own monitor mixes. SL Remote can connect to any StudioLive mixer over a wireless network. Conversely, up to 24 iPads running SL Remote can simultaneously control the same StudioLive mixer while retaining VSL and hardware control.

SL Remote requires a Mac or Windows PC running Universal Control v. 1.2 or later (which includes VSL) and a StudioLive-series mixer. The computer and mixer must be connected and synced via FireWire 400. VSL must be launched in order for SL Remote to detect a StudioLive mixer on the network.

•Subgroup, Main, and FireWire-assign control for all channels
•Dynamics and EQ control for all channels, auxes, subgroups, and mains
•Aux and FX Mix Send control

GarageBand lands for iPad

Posted by Mikers On March - 10 - 2011 1 COMMENT

If you’re lucky enough to live in the US, you’ll be able to pick up an iPad 2 from today! The rest of the world will have to settle for a few key new apps launching today. One of those happens to be the touch-friendly version of Apple’s user-friendly music making software, GarageBand. This has traditionally shipped as part of the iLife bundle, but can now be purchased through the Mac App Store. And as of today, it is now also available as an iPad app, and will set you back US$4.99. Be warned, it’s also a 369MB download, so don’t burn up your 3G data quota!

GarageBand turns your iPad into a collection of Touch Instruments and a full-featured recording studio — so you can make music anywhere you go. Use Multi-Touch gestures to play pianos, organs, guitars, drums, and basses on your iPad. They sound and play like their counterparts, but let you do things you could never do on a real instrument. Enjoy a full range of Smart Instruments that make you sound like a pro — even if you’ve never played a note before. Plug an electric guitar into your iPad and play through classic amps and stompbox effects. Use the built-in microphone or a guitar to record, or capture any performance. Then mix up to eight tracks to create a song you can share.

Play your iPad like a musical instrument.
• Perform on dozens of musical instruments on the innovative Multi-Touch keyboard.
• Tap out beats from the seat of acoustic and electronic drum kits.
• Recreate legendary guitar rigs on your iPad with 9 amps and 10 stompbox effects.
• Record your voice using the built-in microphone, and apply fun sound effects.
• Use the Sampler to create an instrument from sounds you record, then play them on a keyboard.

Sound like a virtuoso with Smart Instruments.
• Tap chords to instantly create keyboard grooves with the Smart Keyboard.
• Strum chords on acoustic and electric Smart Guitars, or trigger fingerpicking patterns for popular chords.
• Groove with an onscreen electric or upright Smart Bass by tapping on chords.
• Drag drum instruments onto a grid to create your own beats with the Smart Drums.

Create a song anywhere you go.
• Arrange and mix your song with up to eight tracks using Touch Instruments, audio recordings, and loops.
• Trim and place musical regions exactly where you want them to play.
• Use the Mixer to fine-tune each track’s volume – solo or mute any track, or adjust pan, reverb, and echo.
• Use over 250 professionally prerecorded loops as a backing band to your song.

Share your songs.
• Email songs right from your iPad (AAC).
• Export your song and add it to the iTunes library on your Mac or PC.
• Send a project to your Mac and open it in GarageBand to continue refining your song.

Control for Symbolic Sounds

Posted by Mikers On August - 26 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Probably a pretty niche app, but well produced none the less. These apps are designed to control Symbolic Sounds Music production software, including Kyma for Mac. While the iPad version is pricey, there is a ‘lite’ version for iPhone.

Control Symbolic Sound’s Kyma X Paca or Pacarana sound design system using your iPad!. Conveniently arranged on one screen, vKiP’s controls are optimized in size and layout for the iPad Multi-Touch screen. Adjust faders and rotaries, browse and load in Kyma sound snapshots, plus more! Untether yourself from the computer mouse and screen.

vKiP adjusts for either portrait or landscape orientation, giving you the flexibility to choose your preferred usage mode.

vKiP is Harmony Systems’ latest in its Delora Software family of “v” applications that expand the controller options for Kyma. It uses WiFi and “Midi over OSC” to communicate with Kyma: no other computer “agent” programs, drivers, or utilities are needed. vKiP can be used with any computer and OS supported by Kyma.

ProRemote offers high-priced DAW control

Posted by Mikers On June - 26 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Ok, so this app has been around for quite a while, but it hasn’t appeared here before, so we thought we’d at least make mention of it for those that feel the need to spend this much on a DAW control app, even though there are plenty of cheaper alternatives available these days. There is an LE version that’s worth considering if you don’t need all the ‘pro’ features.

ProRemote is the World’s first 32 channel touch sensitive control surface that fits in the palm of your hand.

ProRemote allows you to control your Audio applications wirelessly using your existing Wifi network. Get realtime meter data and control your rig from across the room with flying faders or across the planet!

One binary runs on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

– Are you behind the drums and need to check your levels and press record?

– Do you frequently need to be in two places at the same time?

– Do you like sitting on the couch and playing guitar instead of being glued to the computer?

ProRemote is your solution. If you only need basic remote control of ProTools, Ableton Live, Apple Logic or Soundtrack Pro, see our other less expensive product ProRemote Light Edition (ProRmt LE) and ProTransport.

ProRemote on an iPad is like having four Mackie Control Universal Pro’s but better because it is wireless and much less expensive. You get almost $5000 of hardware for the price of ProRemote. And ProRemote also works on your iPhone and iPod touch.

Need an XY controller? Check out Pro XY. Use gravity to turn your knobs! Pro XY is included free in ProRemote.

Need professional MIDI pads for drum programming or other tasks? ProPads is your solution and is also included free with ProRemote.

All updates to ProRemote will be free.

This version “officially” supports:
– ProTools including a new skin for ProTools version 8
– Apple Logic
– Ableton Live 7
– Soundtrack Pro

Unofficially we support (no skin or custom fader tapers yet):
– Digital Performer
– MIO Console
– Cubase

** You must download ProRemoteServer in order to use ProRemote. **

Please visit www.folabs.com/download.html to download the server.

The price of the remote includes unlimited free updates as well as free online support. Connect with us on Twitter: @proremote

ProRemote is Mac only- we are working on Windows support. A public beta for Windows XP is available for download.
