The folks at Xewton have just advised us of the latest update for their comprehensive music workstation app for iPad, called Music Studio, inlcuding CoreAudio and simultaneous multitrack recording! Exciting stuff…

It’s a generative 8-bit music synthesizer featuring interactive live code editing, waveform and data visualizations, expression sharing via email and Twitter, WAV export to iTunes, saves and loads expressions, it supports all device orientations, and offers a configurable theme.

Paul says that Glitch Machine has been heavily inspired by viznut’s article on algorithmic music: http://countercomplex.blogspot.com/2011/10/some-deep-analysis-of-one-line-music.html from which, a very new music scene called “bytebeat” has arisen. There’s way too much number crunching on that site for me to take in, but after a read of the instructions and short play with Glitch Machine, I found the interface not too overwhelming to come to grips with. I’d imagine dedicating a few weeks to it, would be required to create anything worth actually playing to someone else.
