DopplerPad 2 now available

Posted by Mikers On January - 22 - 2010 1 COMMENT

DopplerPad 2 is available in the App Store! This free update appears to add some tasty new features……

Here’s what we like the look of -

Effects -

The first thing you may notice is that the pads now have an effect button next to the instrument button. This pops open a menu similar to the instrument menu. Tapping effects toggles them on and off. The great thing about this is that you can now apply any effect to any instrument (including samplers and drum kits)!

New Tools -

The heart of this update is in the Tools menu where we find 2 new items. Synths and Effects. These are powerful editors that let you create and edit your own custom synth instruments and effects.

Synths -

In the Synths Tool, you’ll find that you can freely edit the parameters of the synthesizer that powers DopplerPad. This editor gives you access to every parameter we had when creating the original set of factory instruments.
  • 2 Oscillators – including 5 waveforms, phase control, frequency difference and more
  • Amplification Envelope
  • Filter – Low Pass or High Pass
  • Mod Envelope
  • LFO – which includes beat sync, waveform, destination and more
  • Mod Y – which lets you control how the Y axis of a pad effects different synth parameters
  • Velocity – which lets you control how tap velocity effects different synth parameters

Each item above gets its own panel in the Synths editor, and they all have many more parameters than I’ve listed here. If you ever want more details on what a given parameter does, tap the info button on the panel for a detailed description.
Effects -

Similar to the Synths Tool, Effects lets you create and edit custom Effects to use on the pads. When editing Effects, you’ll find
  • Delay – which can be beat-synced
  • Delay Filter – which lets you apply a Filter to the Delay
  • Distortion
  • Mod Y – Similar to Effects, this lets you control parameters of the Effect on the Y axis

AG-7 Wireless MIDI Rhythm Guitar

Posted by Mikers On January - 22 - 2010 1 COMMENT

The AG-7 Midi Guitar has no sounds onboard… It connects to your midi software over your wireless network, allowing you to play whatever instruments or samples you like. It requires the free receiver application DSMI Server to be installed on your computer.

It was tested with Garageband and Logic, but should work with most other midi enabled software too.

The receiver app can be downloaded from here and setup guides for OS X, Windows, and Linux can be found there too.

- If the Tilt Trem button is engaged, the accelerometer is used as a virtual whammy bar. You can bend notes up, down, and also shake for a gentle vibrato effect.

- The force of your pluck or strum is governed by how far up the virtual string you touch. Near the neck gives a softer note, but hit near the bridge for power chords.

- To enable you to play in any key, the transpose function allows to to go up or down in semitones. There are 2 octaves up and down available which also helps for playing any instrument from bass to piccolo.

- You can choose the Midi channel used, so that it doesn’t interfere with your current Midi setup. In the demo video we assigned different instruments to each channel. It seemed to work fine!

- In a perfect world, guitar strings would never stop vibrating. However sometimes it is necessary so touching the mute button at any time stops all the strings.

Akai’s iPK25 & SynthStation Studio

Posted by Mikers On January - 22 - 2010 1 COMMENT

AKAI PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCES iPK25 AND
SynthStation Studio FOR iPhone® AND iPod® Touch

Cumberland, R.I. (Jan 14, 2010) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces the iPK25 keyboard controller and the SynthStation Studio music production app, both for iPhone and iPod Touch. Akai Pro will unveil the iPK25 and SynthStation Studio at the 2010 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, booth 6400, January 14–17.

The iPK25 and SynthStation Studio transform a musician’s iPhone or iPod Touch into a portable music production studio for mobile music creation. While the SynthStation Studio app is powerful enough for professional musicians, virtually anyone can use it to easily create music. The app gives musicians three synthesizers for creating and modifying sonic textures used for melodies, chords and bass lines. Built around Akai Professional’s history in synthesis and drawing on the company’s newest MINIAK synth, the SynthStation Studio app sounds great and offers wide-ranging sonic flexibility with its virtual analog synthesis.

SynthStation Studio users can create and save sequences and complete songs. The app contains three different three-oscillator synths, and drum kits, which musicians can sequence and mix right in the SynthStation Studio. For creating melodic and accompaniment parts, the SynthStation Studio contains an arpeggiator with preset patterns, built-in effects and filters and an XY control interface for expressive control of key parameters.

The SynthStation Studio features an on-screen keyboard for use on the go. It is also designed for use with its companion keyboard, the iPK25. This 25-key MIDI keyboard features a built-in dock for the iPhone or iPod Touch. It gives users two octaves of velocity-sensitive, synth-action keys, pitch and modulation wheels, and physical buttons for the most commonly used controls including octave up and down and sound-bank selections. The iPK25 also features a stereo pair of RCA line outputs and a headphone output for connection to recording and sound reinforcement systems. The iPK25 also has a USB/MIDI output for use as a controller for other MIDI software on Mac or PC and MIDI hardware devices.

“The package of the iPK25 keyboard and the SynthStation Studio app transform the iPhone into a professional musical instrument,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional.

The iPK25 will be available from pro audio and musical instrument retailers in March 2010. The SynthStation Studio app will be available from the iTunes App Store in January 2010.
